South Shields Tri Winter Round Up

The long dark cold winter days are slowing turning into lighter spring days but South Shields Tri members have been working hard during the off season to be ready for 2022 season.

We have been running three session each week which consist of Running, Swimming and Turbo sessions. Our run sessions are held around South Shields area while our Swimming and turbo sessions are held at brinkburn CIO.

The run sessions have been a mix of speed, endurance and hills. The members have been working hard on their run fitness over some cold and challenging winter conditions despite these conditions work put in was impressive.

The swim sessions at brinkburn well attended with member looking to build up swim fitness ahead of the new race season in 2022. Coaches set out an 8-week training plan to build up distance with working on technique and pace.

Our turbo session has been a great addition over the winter period with member putting in the hard work in on the bike. The coaches been working on sessions to keeping the members interested and fun with different style session including dice night and deck of cards.

Lots of another great stuff happen over winter including Emma White 5k TT attempts which you can read about on our website. Members also started to plan the 2022 season which includes some member stepping up distance to full and half ironman distance.

Head coach Grant Bezuidenhout says “From a coach's point of view it's been brilliant putting everyone out of there comfort zone and watching them reap the benefits everyone has really brought their A game and are working really hard towards their upcoming season/ goals. We have a lot more coaches now and they have done a brilliant job at getting our athletes where they want to be and I take my hat off to them as they have been working really hard. What great team we have and I’m super chuffed to be a part of it all.”
